Open letter to everyone to join me and She For Change and move forward in our personal and collective journey
Dear All,
Today I want to share something with you all through this open letter as we launch our Community Newsletter.
We live in a world connected by technology. Every connection we want to leverage is a click away from a “connect” and a “follow” but are we really connected to the collective?
For the first time, we are moving farther and farther away from being community-driven to network-driven - becoming what I would call an “alienated society”. I have some 7500+ Linkedin connections, 4000+ Facebook friends and another 1350+ connections on Instagram. Are these connections of mine meaningful enough to contribute to my growth? I don’t think so. I am probably talking to 15-20-30 or more people on social media per day but how many of those people are cheering for me at my highest highs, supporting me through my lowest lows and walking beside me on my journey?
True community in our modern world is hard to find because we increasingly live out our lives as members of networks. This transition from community to network life is what I am sure is at the core of increasing feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and anomie that each of us are experiencing more so than ever before. We’ve never been so “connected” — and yet so isolated at the same time.
So what happens when we want to change the world and start a revolution in this isolation?
Self-doubt, loneliness, failures, despair, mistakes, mental illnesses - I have experienced all of it and I am sure most of you will relate to me.
So yes I still want to change the world for young girls and women. I still want more women leaders at decision making tables, more women CEOs running impactful organisations, more young girls growing up with role models accessible to them (and not through passive social media connections). I still want little girls to grow up aspiring to run for the office, I still want laws and rights protecting us women, I still want what all of you want - a world where gender equality is not some 100 years away.
But I want to do this with you. My community of fierce young girls and women and leaders and organisations who shares my vision of an equal, equitable and just world.
Join our community
Let’s all come together and dismantle the systemic barriers and address the roadblocks and bottlenecks and thus advance and democratize young women’s leadership for impact. Let’s break out of our silos. Let’s collectively co-create the new dawn of new opportunities accessibility to opportunities, community learnings and growth and redesign the very structures we are a part of.
Here’s to CHANGE.
Let’s remind ourselves once again that fierce feminists have changed the world and fierce feminists will change the world - but not alone. Our power should be rooted in the collective.
